I actually came up with the answer before solving the puzzle. I correctly deduced a few of the letters, but still hadn't figured out the encryption method. Using what I had, I thought of a phrase which suited the theme. It turned out to be correct. Then, when I looked at the puzzle again, the method instantly became apparent.
